"It is the duty of every citizen to be so armed." - George Washington I am here to talk about a rifle that I have been using for many years. It's not a AR-15, it's not an AKM, and it's not an SKS. This weapon is none other than the venerable Saiga 12 Gauge Shotgun. I know what your thinking, they don't make guns like they used to! True my friends, but there are still some guns out there like this one that will do exactly what you need them to do...quietly and accurately. It has quite a history as well with over 20 million produced since 1958 by the famous Izhevsk plant in Russia. Now let's get right into the specs: Caliber: 12 Gauge (2 3/4 inch and 3 inch available) Capacity: 5+1 or 8+1 (depending on which model you purchase. Also available in slug only version for hunting.) Chokes: Cylinder bore and an optional screw in choke system Sights: Front bead sight and removable ghost ring rear sight. Folds down for optics mounting. Barrel is also threaded so an aftermarket muzzle break can be affixed as well as a choke system to further quiet it down. Also, there is a front folding wire stock that can be flipped up or down if you desire. The stock is made of Russian wood, the finish is paint that shows typical wear and tear (this weapon was designed for combat after all) Dimensions: 26.25 inches in length, 12.5 in height, 6 in width Weight: 5 pounds empty, 7 pounds loaded with 5 shells. The 8+1 model weights 7 pounds empty and 8 pounds loaded with 5 shells. The Saiga 12 gauge shotgun has many advantages over other shotguns on the market today. It's light weight makes it very convenient when you are out hunting or hiking in the woods for hours at a time, you don't want to be lugging anything too heavy around when your trekking through the backcountry. If you are using the shotgun for sporting purposes or SHTF, then it's best to have a shotgun that is light enough to carry around all day without it getting too heavy. The Saiga 12 gauge shotguns are about as light as they come. The Saiga 12 gauge shotgun has two major advantages over other shotguns on the market today. They are very inexpensive AND they are quite accurate. The particular model I am reviewing is the Gamo Z-85 Maverick, which was introduced in 2014 by Turkey based firearms manufacturer Gamo Group USA. The Maverick has a real estate saying that is branded into the side of the receiver. This saying has been coined as, "Do Not Look Back". The Markings were done by the manufacturer to remind gun owners that they should never look back. If you are hunting big game and somehow your shot doesn't connect, you must not look back and continue to take aim and fire another round at your target. The two most used types of shot shells for Saiga 12 gauge shotguns are LYNX and CLAYMOJO SHOTSHELLS. cfa1e77820
